Standards for lobbies and cash wraps:
- Avoid floorcovering in the immediate entrance area that is a slick surface that could cause slipping, and
also finishes that make it difficult to move a wheelchair across
- Flush the mount between hard-surfaced entry flooring and carpet
- Reception desks should be visible from the entrance doors
- Full, primary 2-way passage must be provided through the lobby area; it should connect the reception
desk, elevators, and public conveniences near the lobby
- Lobby furniture must be designed for use by physically disabled people
- Need to provide seating or space for wheelchair parking within the main lobby or adjacent to the main
entry; should be enough space for at least 2 wheelchairs (48" x 32" min.)
- Reception desks shouldn't exceed 36" high; a counter for writing shouldn't exceed 34" high
- The height can be higher than 36" as long as there's a shelf at 34-36" high, that's a minimum of 8"wide
- The cash wrap should have a minimum 24" x 36" transaction surface
- Lobbies should have 10 footcandles of lighting levels, writing areas should have 30 footcandles
